Organized by Kansas City Women in Technology / @kcwomenintech / @djangogirlskc
Django Girls is a non-profit organization and a community that empowers and helps women to organize free, one-day programming workshops by providing tools, resources and support.
Workshops have taken place all over the world, including right here in Kansas City.
In 2016, we hosted our first Django Girls in Kansas City. With the help of 16 mentors, we introduced nearly 100 women to web development through Django.
Django is a high-level Python Web framework that encourages rapid development and clean design. Built by experienced developers, it takes care of much of the hassle of Web development, so you can focus on writing your app without needing to reinvent the wheel. It’s free and open source.
Fun fact: Django was founded in Lawrence, KS!
Women 14+ with little to no programming experience are encouraged to apply - djangogirls.org/kansascity/apply
Coaches will be available to help with any issues during the workshop and meals are provided
Attendees need a Windows or Mac laptop computer
Participants can bring an iPad or tablet to read through the tutorial during the event, but they are not recommended tools for programming.
People of all genders are welcome to sign up as a coach - bit.ly/DjangoGirlsKCVolunteer
You do not need to be Django/Python developer to be a coach
Coaches will need a good understanding of basic programming fundamentals and the ability to debug technical issues
